| ALT Skip and Orange Cards Using Your ALT Skip or Orange Card Every Sendai ALT receives a Skip/Joy card for traveling via bus/subway on official business trips. If you use the JR train system for business trips, you will also receive a JR Orange card to use instead of cash to pay for your tickets. Each time that you have an ALT meeting, elementary school visit, or a seminar you can use the appropriate card to travel to and from the venue. ALT Skip or Orange Card Tally Sheet Your school accountant will keep your card, and you will have to sign it out whenever you need to use it. Your card has an accompanying tally sheet, which your accountant should have. Each time you use the card, you will hanko the tally sheet when you check it out. After youfve used it, fill in the journey information on the tally sheet (amount used, amount remaining, destination), and your accountant will hanko to confirm that you have returned the card. The amount used and amount remaining will be printed on the back of your Skip or Orange card. If you have traveled by subway, the station names will also be printed (in kanji only). If you traveled by bus or train, the station/bus stop names wonft be printed - you must keep a record yourself. Please be sure to accurately note in your diary where you went, and how much you paid; it is very easy to forget. Returning Used Cards to Shidoka and Getting New Cards When your card runs out you must return it to Shidoka. You need to keep the used card and tally sheet. Please DO NOT discard them. You can bring them to Tanaka-san at Shidoka, or give them to Matt or Holly at an ALT meeting. You can get a new card before your old card runs out. You must come to Shidoka to pick up the card from Tanaka-san; we cannot send them in the mail. In many cases there are two cards at the school so please check with your supervisor. Itfs a good idea to get a new card once your current card has a value of Y1000 or less. You must use the full value of your card before returning it to Shidoka, i.e. the value remaining must be \0. Often, there wonft be enough money on your card to pay the full fare for your final journey. This is why you should pick up a replacement card before your current card runs out. You must use both cards together to buy a ticket in this case. If taking the subway or train, you will need to go to the ticket machine in front of the gates. Insert your current card first, then the new card. The machine will take the fare first from your current card (dropping it to \0), then the remaining fare from the new card. The ticket machine will return both your cards and print you out a ticket. Make sure to keep both cards. Use the ticket to get through the gates, not the card. Record the journey on both tally sheets. If taking the bus, simply insert the current card into the card machine when entering the bus. When getting off the bus, first insert your current card into the machine by the driver. Then insert the new card. The machine will take the fare first from your current card (dropping it to Y0), then the remaining fare from the new card. The ticket machine will return both your cards. Often the bus driver will assume you no longer need the used card and throw it in the trash. Make sure to get both cards back. Record the journey on both tally sheets. |
