| Tokyo Orientation Attendance at Tokyo Orientation is mandatory. Content Tokyo Orientation provides a basic introduction to life on the JET Programme, including: - An introduction to the significance of the JET Programme - An introduction to the positions and duties of JETs, - Workshops introducing job skills needed by JETs to fulfil their duties - Workshops and speeches introducing skills useful for daily life as a JET living in Japan Tokyo Orientation also provides a forum for meeting other JETs and your supervisors. At the Host Prefecture Meeting, you will have a chance to have specific questions about your locations, positions and responsibilities answered. The Orientation is also an opportunity for you to make physical (jet lag), mental and cultural adjustments before setting out for your new home in Sendai. Materials Distributed You will receive the following materials on arrival (subject to change): -Resource Materials and Teaching Handbook (ALTs and CIRs only) -CIR Handbook (CIRs only) -SEA Handbook (SEAs only) -Earthquake Emergency Procedures -JET Diary -JET Calendar -JET Programme Japanese Language Course Guide Book -CLAIR News -JET Journal -JET Programme Accident Insurance Policy Guide Accomodation Accommodation will be provided at the orientation venue and is generally three participants to a room. CLAIR and the travel agent will assign rooms. It may be necessary for CLAIR or the hotel staff to contact you during the orientation in the event of an emergency, therefore participants are not able to change rooms. Please be aware that hotel reservations are handled as a group by CLAIR and the travel agent. JET participants will not be able to contact the hotel directly to change their reservations. Likewise, all new JET participants, even those coming from elsewhere in Japan, are required to stay at the hotel and are not permitted to make private accommodation arrangements. Meals Breakfast and lunch will be provided at Tokyo Orientation. On the evening of the first Monday, a formal Welcome Reception will be held at the hotel. The reception is only for JET participants. In principle, spouses and children of JETs are not permitted to attend the Welcome Reception, Opening Ceremony, meetings or workshops. Emergencies In the case of an emergency, relatives will be able to contact you by leaving a message at the CLAIR office. CLAIR will immediately forward the message to you at the Orientation venue.
