As the world grows ever more inter-connected, news of earthquakes travels fast! Whilst your loved-one is living in Japan, you may hear reports of ga strong earthquake in north Japanh, gtsunami warning issued for Japanh, etc. Please do not panic upon hearing this news. Although earthquakes and other natural disasters occur often in Japan, most are very minor, and both local and national government are well prepared to deal with emergencies. At Sendai Board of Education, we have a plan in place for emergency situations, and we provide our ALTs with information on disaster prevention, procedures to follow during an earthquake, etc. If you have heard news of an earthquake, and are worried about the safety of an ALT, you may find the following pages on our website useful: Japan Meteorological Agency: This agency provides up-to-date information on recent earthquakes and other natural disasters. Checking the Disaster Message Board Online: Information on the Disaster Message Board for cell phones, where ALTs can post messages online in the event of a serious earthquake; family members can access these messages online simply by entering the ALTfs phone number (see sections entitled gViewing Messagesh for instructions).
