Shopping

Clothes
As noted in the gwhat to bringh section of this website, there are a variety of stores selling clothes here, but for western styles and sizes, you may have to look around. Some stores in Sendai carrying western styles include Eddie Bauer, French Connection, the Gap, LL Bean, NEXT, Levis, Zara, and UNIQLO.  The sizes are often petite, though.

Household Goods

For those people who need to buy things to make their houses livable, a list of goods being sold by departing ALTs will be sent to you in June. Apart from this, there are a number of stores in and outside of Sendai where you can buy basic items. A good place to start would be one of several department stores, for example Daiei or Jusco, or one of several 100 Yen shops, all of which carry goods ranging from bathroom to auto-care. There are also several second-hand stores which have a wide range of quality goods.

Recorded Music

There are branches of Tower Records, HMV and Virgin stores in Sendai, with CDs ranging between 1,800 yen and 2,400 yen. Cheaper CDs are available through some discount stores.

Electronics
For those with a taste for electric consumables, Sendai has several electronic stores, such as Yodabashi and Yamada Denki, with a host of goodies. There is also an Apple Store. Be aware that anything you buy here might not be compatible, power-wise, with your system back in your home countries. English manuals are often available so be sure to enquire at time of purchase.
