Toiletries & Birth Control

Women
There are acceptable substitutes to the brands of feminine protection items we find at home, available in small to regular sizes. Feminine products are all made from synthetic materials, cotton products arenft available. If you like a specific brand, then it would be a good idea to bring or have some sent from home. You may bring up to 24 pieces per product. You might also want to order online from Foreign Buyers Club.

As for birth control/family planning devices, within the last few years in Japan, the pill has become somewhat less regulated, but the dosage of many brands is still high. Most hospitals or clinics stock only one or two brands and therefore it can be difficult to prescribe for individual womenfs needs. You may want to stock up before you come. You may import a one-month supply without an import permit. See the
Medications page for further information on importing birth control.

Make-up, perfume and toiletries are expensive here. Western make-up brands are available, such as Clinique, Maybelline, Body Shop, etc., though the shades are designed for Japanese skin, great for those with Asian ancestry! Others may want to bring foundation with them. Anti-perspirants are almost non-existent. You will want to bring your own for sure. You may bring up to 24 pieces per product.

Men
Smell good products are rarely used by Japanese men. Bring deodorant! Anti-perspirant for men is virtually non-existent, and colognes are expensive. You may bring up to 24 pieces per product.

Family Planning devices should also be on your to bring list. Condoms are readily available here, but the size may be an issue! If comfort and safety are your passions then bringing your own supply is highly recommended.
