There is now a Google Wave Based discussion board at the bottom of this page where you can contribute your comments and recommendations concerning physicians in Sendai.


Sendai International Relations Association (SIRA) and Miyagi International Association (MIA) each publish lists of clinics and hospitals which have some English-speaking staff.

The following health care professionals are recommended for their level of care, privacy and because of accurate diagnoses in the past. They also speak sufficient English to help you if you go by yourself. However, the Shidoka advisors or the CIRs may be available to take you if you’d like, probably a good idea if you’re going for the first time. On the maps, X marks the spot.

Dr. Mori is a woman. Her clinic is near Itsutsubashi Station. Use exit North 4, walk north and turn left at the first corner. The clinic is in the Itsutsubashi Medical Center (pink building).

There are two doctors; a husband and wife team. Dr. Koki Urayama specializes in orthopedic and internal medicine. He speaks good English. His wife, Dr. Taiko Urayama, specializes in dermatology and internal medicine. She doesn’t speak English, but her husband can translate. The clinic is on the second floor near where Ichibancho and Marble Road intersect (the covered mall downtown). See the link above for more details.

From Itsutsubashi Station take exit North 4, go straight and turn left at the first corner, you’ll see a 7-11. Go straight until the next intersection and turn left. On your left, and on the corner, is a pinkish tiled building. The clinic is the first office and the pharmacy is two doors down, both ground floor with glass doors, no romaji but the second kanji in Hosokawa is river!

There are two doctors running the sports medicine clinic-  Dr. Sawata and Dr. Sasaki (Dr. Sasaki speaks good English). Their schedules are as follows:






































Take the subway to Izumi and go to bus stop #3. Take a bus going to Izumi Park Town via Teraoka Murasaki-yama ??????? ????? ??
Get off at the ‘Teraoka Iriguchi’ ????bus stop. Enter the hospital grounds by the lane beside the pharmacy.



































Inoculations

Offer inoculations against rabies, hepatitis A & B, measles, Japanese encephalitis, polio, and tetanus (and others). They also have malaria medications. They can advise you on what to get depending on your destination. Inoculations are not covered by national insurance.

To get there, take a bus from Sendai Station (stop #24 or 25) bound for Kitayama/Shiheimachi ??????. Get off the bus at Kyoukai-mae ???, just across from the church. The clinic is just down from the bus stop. Alternatively, you can walk there from Kita-yobancho subway station, along route 48.
